I am a creator from an industrial town in the midwest. I am a digital artist, photographer, printmaker, makeup artist, and face/body painter.
My name is Monique Ramirez. I am a Mexican-American multi-media artist primarily working in makeup design, photography, and face painting. Originally from Chicagoland, I relocated to Grand Rapids, MI four years ago. I have 15 years of experience in everything from Glam make-up to Theater to Studio Art to Education. I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus in Photography and a minor in Art History. Working in the beauty industry for many years was a bridge to my conceptual work. Much of which revolves around identity and the societal structures in which “self” is developed. Working through those concepts led me to face painting. While aware of racial identity and oppressive constructs, I am more thoughtful of the impact of softness and small interactions in the world. These days, I spend time focused on making life more colorful, loving, fun, and I believe, fostering a sense of togetherness. Hence my face painting business, Sunshine Face Painting Co. was born. My hand-painted designs are not just adornments but also powerful statements of embracing individuality and celebrating diversity. My current focuses, professional or otherwise, are in face painting, photography, digital editing, concept ideation, identity, building community, and being a rad tia to my nephews & niece.
